Black Powers is a music track that appears in The Legend of Spyro series, first appearing in The Eternal Night, and later in Dawn of the Dragon during some of the Golem fights. It was composed by Rebecca Kneubuhl and Gabriel Mann. The lyrics to the song are in Latin and come from the Dies irae sequence.
Lyrics
The choir's lyrics are as follows:
"Iuste iudex ultionis, Donum fac remissionis Ante diem rationis.
O--------
Ingemisco, tamquam reus: Culpa rubet vultus meus: Supplicanti parce, Deus.
Oro supplex et acclinis, Cor contritum quasi cinis: Gere curam mei finis.
O--------
Gere curam mei finis."
The English translation is as follows:
"Just Judge of vengeance, make a gift of remission before the day of reckoning.
I sigh, like the guilty one: my face reddens in guilt: Spare the imploring one, O God.
[Humbly] kneeling and bowed I pray, [my] heart crushed as ashes: take care of my end.
take care of my end."
Trivia
- Rebecca Kneubuhl, one of the composers for The Legend of Spyro series, had responded to fan emails inquiring about lyrics to this song and many others containing chants and choirs, stating "yes, all the lyrics for the legend of spyro music are in latin, and they do have meaning. they're mostly ovid poems."[1] However, ironically enough, actual sources for lyrics seem to be sparse, and so far only a few fans have recently identified some of their origins.[2]
