During the Eternal Night (The Night of Eternal Darkness), all corrupted souls can escape from the Mountain of Malefor (Well of Souls) and roam the mountain until the end. If a powerful enough soul were to exit from the Well (Malefor), then he and the evil spirits could leave and plague the realms.
