The Destroyer made an appearance in The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon after Spyro and Cynder defeated the Golem.

Description

The Destroyer is a massive Golem that has the ability to destroy the world using the 'Ring of Annihilation'. The Destroyer was said to be a legendary creature that would bring about a new age by destroying the world. Malefor claimed that it was the destiny of the purple dragons to resurrect the Destroyer to bring about, what he called, the Great Cleansing, meaning the end of the world.

Story

The Destroyer was resurrected by Malefor to bring about the end of the world. Malefor announced the resurrection to the citizens of Warfang the night of the Golem's defeat. As it spread the Belt of Fire across the surface of the world, Spyro and the others were having trouble keeping up with the monster. Determining that they would be unable to catch up to the Destroyer, the Dragons set about ambushing it as it neared the end of its journey. In the Dam level, Spyro and Cynder opened the floodgates to an enormous dam and were able to fill the canyon it was built in with water, which stalled the Destroyer. Once they had successfully stopped it, they flew in and attacked several key dark crystals on and inside its body. Unfortunately, even though the two had destroyed the creature's center crystal, this failed to stop the Destroyer, as Malefor, through some dark magic, controlled the Golem himself, and he continued onwards, completing its journey right as Spyro and Cynder confronted Malefor and breaking the world apart.

In Legend

In legend, the Destroyer was a terrifying beast that had the ability to create a new world by destroying the old one.

Abilities

The Destroyer has the ability to form a wall of fire wherever he walks known as the "Belt of Fire". Eventually, after this act, the Destroyer will dive back into the volcano, and this will split the world apart in a violent torrent of fire and bring the birth of a new, dark one.

Trivia

  • In the cutscene following the level Attack of the Golem when the Destroyer is emerging from the volcano, a large dark crystal is shown emenating dark energy in an area that appears to be in Malefor's Lair. It is possible that this is how Malefor was able to control the Golem and keep it animated after Spyro and Cynder had destroyed the dark crystals around its body and its dark crystal heart. If so, then it was likely a back-up crystal for the Destroyer that Malefor could use in the event this occured. Further evidence of this may be seen in the cutscene following The Dam level as when Malefor takes control of the creature, the same dark energy is seen emenating downwards from around his lair.
