Thieves are recurring enemies, and sometimes friendly characters, in the Spyro games. They first appear in Spyro the Dragon.
Characteristics[edit]
Thieves have human-like characteristics, and they wear striped robes, usually blue in color. They steal valuable collectibles, which varies between the games, but is Dragon Eggs, gems, and keys. When Spyro chases a Thief, it runs away from him at high speed, taunting Spyro with a chant, "Nah-nah-nah-nah-nah!". Besides blue Thieves, there are also Thieves who wear green, yellow, purple, or red robes. Red Thieves move even faster than their blue counterparts, and require a Supercharge to catch up to. However, green Thieves are slower than blue ones.
Story[edit]
Spyro the Dragon[edit]
The Thieves constantly taunted Spyro on his journey and tried to keep the Dragon Eggs out of his grasp as he makes his way through the Dragon Worlds. They are fast, but Spyro's charging speed is just slightly faster, and they will fall easily after being charged or flamed once.
In Tree Tops, there is both a Green Thief and a Red Thief, and each of them carry a purple gem. In the Gnasty Gnorc boss realm, there are two Thieves, each of whom are carrying a key required to reach Gnasty Gnorc. Many varieties of Thieves appear in Gnasty's Loot, including ones that ride a plane, Plane Thieves.
Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage![edit]
Although the Thieves did not appear, a very similar variant appears in Shady Oasis. These thieves wear yellow robes and orange turbans, and try to keep the three magic lamps away from Spyro. Several of them also wield scimitars and shields, and attempt to attack Spyro directly, although they are far slower than their running comrades.
Spyro: Year of the Dragon[edit]
Thieves serve under the Sorceress. Spyro encounters red, blue, and yellow Thieves along the way, and like in Spyro the Dragon, Spyro must chase down the Thieves to retrieve a Dragon Egg from them. Moneybags is shown to have taken a liking towards the two Thieves found in the Supercharge Challenge Portal in Molten Crater.
Thieves also appear in the Super Bonus Round, although they carry high amounts of Gems instead of Eggs.
Spyro: Season of Ice[edit]
Thieves act the same as in the PlayStation games, although they run around with a crystallized fairy. In this game, Thieves are colored light blue. Spyro first encounters one in Market Mesa.
Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly[edit]
Thieves are a friendly species for the first time. They seek Spyro's help in clearing out the Riptocs that have invaded the Thieves Den, which is their residence. In exchange for helping them, the Thieves allow Spyro to recover any gems that they have stolen from the Dragons recently. Thieves still give off their signature chant.
The blue-robed varieties reside in the Thieves Den, and are noticeably smaller than the Thieves seen in Spyro the Dragon and Spyro: Year of the Dragon. There are also red-clothed, jester-like varieties lurking throughout the Dragon Realms, who must be chased and attacked in order to give up the loot that they have stolen.
Spyro 2: Season of Flame[edit]
All Thieves can be found in challenge portals, where they run around, carrying a firefly in a brown sack.
Spyro: Attack of the Rhynocs[edit]
Thieves are friendly inhabitants like in Enter the Dragonfly. They can be found loitering throughout the various realms, although many of them are found in the Thieves' Guild, which serves as a school for young, green-robed Thieves. The place also has higher-ranked Thieves, Greta and Master Thief, both of whom wear purple robes. As in previous games, there are still some Thieves whom Spyro must chase down to retrieve the items that they stole.
Spyro: A Hero's Tail[edit]
Red hired a blue-robed Thieves to steal 80 Dragon Eggs from Mrs. Shoutfire. The Thieves either dropped the eggs, or kept them and are hidden throughout the realms.
