==Timeline==
===The Battle against the Dark Armies===
When the Dark Master, [[Malefor]], was exiled from the dragon society, he built an army of Apes and taught them how to harness the power of the [[Spirit Gem]]s. He then waged war against the Dragons, a conflict that spiraled the world into chaos. During the war, Malefor was defeated and his spirit was imprisoned within the realm of [[Convexity]]. Despite this setback, the Apes were still able to carry out Malefor's orders, continuing their war with the Dragons. 

Over the years, the Dragons were made aware of prophecies that foretold of a purple dragon, a special breed that is born once every ten generations. This prophecised creature is said to bring hope to the world and put a stamp on the current age. However, Malefor had heard of the same prophecies, and fearing what this purple dragon could do, he orchestrated a raid on the Dragon Temple to prevent Spyro's birth. Led by the Ape King [[Gaul]], an army of Apes stormed the temple, seeking to destroy the purple dragon's egg. While the purple dragon's egg was safely hidden away, the temple raid resulted in the destruction of all the other [[Dragon Egg (The Legend of Spyro)|dragon eggs]] that were hidden there. One dragon egg was spared from destruction and stolen by Gaul, as part of Malefor’s plan to free himself from his prison.

===Cynder===
Only a dragon born on the Year of the Dragon can open the gateway to Malefor's prison in Convexity. The dragon egg that Gaul stole from the Dragon Temple would hatch into a young dragon who would later be named "Cynder". At a young age, Cynder was corrupted by Malefor's dark powers, forcing her to become his devoted servant. During the battle that would've granted the Dragons victory, Cynder appeared on the battlefield and used her strength and terrifying abilities to easily decimate the Dragon Guardians and their army. During the chaos, she captured three of the Guardians one by one, as they are needed to create keys used to unlock Malefor’s Convexity prison. However the Fire Guardian [[Ignitus]] escaped capture, hiding himself from Cynder and her forces. 

With the Guardians defeated and the dragon army in shambles, this allowed the Dark Armies to easily take over the islands, with Cynder spearheading their conquest. Years later, much of the world was conquered by the black dragon and her forces for Malefor. The Dragons were hunted down by the corrupted Cynder and the Dark Armies, rapidly decreasing their numbers; so much that it was believed that all dragons were gone.

===Spyro's Intervention===
The next purple dragon, [[Spyro (The Legend of Spyro)|Spyro]], eventually came of age and was guided by Ignitus to free the islands of Cynder’s reign and the Guardians she had captured. All or most of Cynder's territories were lost due to Spyro. However before her defeat, Cynder was able to complete her mission in freeing Malefor from his prison in Convexity.

Weeks after Cynder's defeat, the Apes attacked the Dragon Temple and badly damaged it during the surprise assault. The Guardians realized the [[Night of Eternal Darkness]] was upon them and that they were no longer safe at the temple. Ignitus instructed the Guardians to warn the other inhabitants of the Dark Master's return, and sent Spyro to look for [[The Chronicler]].

===The Dark Master's Return===
The [[Night of Eternal Darkness]] had passed, and the Well of Souls crumbled into ruins. Despite Spyro's efforts to stop the Dark Master's escape, Malefor was resurrected and proceeded to lay waste to the world. It was said he struck quickly in a show of hatred and evil, attacking the Dragon City of Warfang to suspend its temple above the land as a symbol of his dominance. He had also cursed the Apes that followed him for their own greed and thirst for power, turning them into skeletons as payment for their disloyalty. Malefor then created a new army of [[Grublin]]s and summoned an [[Golem of the Deep|earth golem from the deep]] to aid him in his conquest over the world. Only two members of the resistance returned to fight against him. Malefor was doing so well, as his army managed to reach the Dragon City of Warfang three years after Spyro and Cynder's disappearance, but was pushed back by the timely arrival of the two young dragons.
