Droids are the robotic citizens of the realm of Metropolis in Avalar. They have taken on the name "droids," presumably a shortening of the word "android," with a modifier specifying their vocation (e.g. Inventor Droid, etc.).
At the time of Ripto's Rage, the droids were overwhelmed by their livestock, who staged a coup, and proceeded to roam Metropolis armed with guns, lasers, rockets and even saucers.
