Spirit Gems are the gem glusters in The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning that give out red, green, blue and purple gems. They are the only gems in the entire Legend of Spyro series that give out every type of gem at once. Ignitus stated in A New Beginning that the Spirit Gems were a gift from the ancestors. Spyro also stated that when he hit the gem, the power of a thousand suns passed through his body.
