The Burned Lands is a large, desolate landscape that was once the Swamp that surrounded the Dragon Temple. Before the events of The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon, it has been burned into a fiery wasteland dotted with mini volcanoes and streamed with lava after Malefor reclaimed the Dragon Temple. The Burned Lands is where Spyro and Cynder lost Ignitus to the dark power of the Belt of Fire when they tried to cross it. It is also an ambush area for enemies Spyro and Cynder have faced before, as they attempt to stop the two dragons from reaching Malefor.
The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon
After failing to stop the Destroyer, Ignitus escorts Spyro and Cynder to the Belt of Fire to confront Malefor. When they attempt to cross through it, the dark power of the Belt of Fire began to overwhelm Ignitus. As he struggled to keep the barrier around them up, Ignitus apologized to both Spyro and Cynder for everything that had happened to them by his failures. Sacrificing himself, he threw Spyro and Cynder through the fire, his death having a deep, almost devastating impact on Spyro. Saddened by his mentor's death, Spyro continues on his journey to Malefor's Lair along with Cynder, who comforts him that he isn't alone.
