History

Many eons ago, the Arkeyans had protected Skylands from The Darkness, but also used their knowledge of magic and technology to build terrible weapons of war to rule Skylands with an iron fist. But like all civilizations, it eventually came to an end and the Arkeyans mysteriously vanished. According to a Story Scroll, long ago, the evil Arkeyan sorcerers who lived within dark cities underground met their demise. The free magicians of Skylands combined their strength to bind the Royal City of Arkus in a vault of eternal rest. All that remains of their empire are their machines, toiling away in the darkness for all eternity.

The Arkeyans uncovered the secrets of the Eternal Magic Source and guarded it to prevent future generations from discovering their secrets.

In The Machine of Doom, it is revealed that the Arkeyans built a large machine that is capable of destroying the Core of Light, called the Machine of Doom. However, it was built as a trap used to capture those who are tempted to steal the weapon, knowing that anyone who was brave enough to get through the Forest of Fear, stole the Chattering Key from the stone wyvern and tempted enough to climb into the Machine was too dangerous to walk free.
