The Grand Prix was themed after the main ''[[Spyro (franchise)|Spyro the Dragon]]'' series, and it introduced [[Spyro the Dragon|Spyro]], [[Hunter]], and [[Gnasty Gnorc]] as playable racers. Each character had their own signature kart: the [[Spyromobile]], the [[Dragonfly (kart)|Dragonfly]], and the [[Gnasty Ride]] respectively.
