Spyro Wiki:Manual of Style

From the Spyro Wiki, the Spyro and Skylanders encyclopedia
Jump to navigationJump to search

The Manual of Style (abbreviated as MoS or MOS) is the style guide for all articles on Spyro Wiki. This page covers general formatting and grammar rules to be used on the wiki. Additional policies and pages, which are cross-referenced here, provide specific guidance on specific topics such as image and media use. The goal and purpose of the Manual of Style is to make using Spyro Wiki easier and more intuitive. It promotes clarity and cohesion and helps editors write articles with a consistent and precise language, layout, and format.

Spyro Wiki uses American English as the language for its articles, as a majority of users are from America. Therefore, editors are expected to make grammar and punctuation follow American English conventions.

If you wish to make changes to the Manual of Style, discuss it on the talk page.

General

Titles

  • Use standard capitalization rules for article titles. Capitalize any and all proper nouns and any words officially capitalized in the games or other official canon.
  • New articles should be named according to the subject's official name.
  • Use the most recently localized name of a subject as the title, and add any additional or earlier names as redirects to the original name.
  • Articles (a, an, the) should be avoided in article titles except if they are used in an official title/name.
  • Do not use abbreviations.

Content

  • The first sentence in the introduction should briefly define the subject of the article, and the subject has to be written in bold. Use the definite article and refer to the subject as a singular entity, except as appropriate for certain cases.
  • Avoid using the second person pronoun (you) in articles.
  • It is proper grammar that a possessive term should drop the final "s" if it is plural. The “S” should not be dropped solely because the word already ends with S.
  • All game titles should be italicized.
  • Linking to other articles is generally limited to the first occurrence of the word or phrase in the article, or the first best use of the term. However, an article can be linked to more than once in the same article if the additional links link to individual sections of the article, rather than the article alone.
  • If an article has an interwiki link, it cannot be deleted unless one of the following occurs:
    • The interwiki links to a broken or nonexistent page.
    • The current link is being replaced by another link, either after the renaming of a page, or to prevent redirection

Trivia

Content qualifies as trivia if it is information that is not significant or vital to either the game or gameplay, does not fit in other places of the article, and is of interest to note. Examples include seemingly unintentional recurrences, real-world references, or seemingly unintentional but marked similarities between two subjects. As with the whole article, the trivia must have true and verified information; opinion-based conjectures do not count as trivia. Trivia should be inserted as the final section in an article, before "References” and “External links”.

  • Do not insert redundant information into the trivia section, particularly when the information is already contained within the main article body.

References

Placed at the very last of the article before the footer templates and categories. If there are any references in the articles, simple put "<references />" under the References header.
