Malefor's lair is past a city it is located on a platform on top of a volcano and at the top of Malefor's Castle. Spyro and Cynder go there together to confront Malefor for the final battle to save the Dragon Realms. It is the Dragon Temple (as Hunter mentioned in Dawn of the Dragon)
