The Catacombs is the first area Spyro starts in on The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon. There is a possibility that this place was once the Well of Souls that have collapsed at the end of The Legend of Spyro: The Eternal Night or that it is underneath the mountain. Many Grublins dwell here, most likely to kill you. Don't let them get to you.
The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon
Spyro and Cynder awaken within the Catacombs after being captured and shackled by the Grublins with a snake chain. Spyro and Cynder were supposed to be sacrificed to the Golem, but woke up too soon. The grublins fought both of them to stall time for the Golem to come. Unfortunately, the Golem came and started to attack them. Hunter luckily saves them, by shooting the Golem in the eye with his arrow.
A few moments later, Hunter tells them to follow him, as he can hear the Golem getting closer. Spyro and Cynder follow him, but are attacked by the Golem once more who smashes them through the wall and onto the other side. The group continue to follow Hunter to another part of the Catacombs. Spyro says that he can see a light shining from the cracked ceiling in an area called Waterfall Cave, indicating that they were close to the surface. However, the Golem attacks them once more. When Spyro and Cynder reach the top of the waterfall, the Golem tries to punch them into the wall but Spyro and Cynder quickly evade it. The Golem's left arm is stuck into the wall, being washed over the waterfall, and as a desperate attempt, it delibrately broke its arm off to free itself.
The group then advance to the last part of The Catacombs. Spyro and Cynder have to lower a horn, which is part of the locking mechanism of the gate that leads out of the Catacombs. Cynder uses her Wind breath to activate the horn, but is grabbed by the Golem. Spyro pulls her out of the Golem grasp using the snake chain that tethers them together, and they escape through the gate and journey onwards to the Twilight Falls.
