Template:Characterbox Template:Q Crash Bandicoot is the primary protagonist in the Crash Bandicoot series and was originally named Willie the Wombat. He is a genetically advanced Eastern Barred bandicoot who lives his life on the Wumpa Islands. Throughout the Crash series, Doctor Neo Cortex is his arch-enemy, and defeats him in order for him to put his life back in order. Crash is often accompanied by his ally, Aku Aku.

In the Spyro series, he is first mentioned in Spyro: Year of the Dragon in the level Haunted Tomb, one of the answers the dog gives you is 'bandicoot'. Another reference to Crash Bandicoot in the game is in the level Desert Ruins, Sheila's egg missions are titled "Krash Kangaroo I" and "Krash Kangaroo II", respectively.

He also appears in a crossover with Spyro entitled Crash Bandicoot Purple: Ripto's Rampage and Spyro Orange: The Cortex Conspiracy. Here, he joins forces with Spyro and together, they must stop Ripto and Dr. Cortex from taking over the world.

Similarities in Gaming

Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon have shown a strong resemblance in each other series such as:

  • Both have companions who followed the hero around throughout the whole game.
  • Both have companions (Aku Aku for Crash) and (Sparx for Spyro) who served as protection instead of a traditional health meter.
  • Both Crash and Spyro had a trilogy of games that were platformers and that were on the PlayStation.
  • Both of the heroes are at least teenagers.
  • Both have collectibles that are scattered around their world.
  • Both have spin-offs exclusively for another console.
  • Crash and Spyro both have villains who also have a lot in common.
  • They both were designed by Charles Zembillas.
  • Both have a use of gems.
    • Oddly, Crash collects Gems by destroying all crates in a level, while gems in the Spyro series are common collectibles.

Trivia

  • It seems that Blink did not like Crash Bandicoot in the beginning of Crash Purple: Ripto's Rampage, as for calling him a "stupid orange monster". He later apologized when he found out Crash was fighting along Spyro.
  • Crash Bandicoot makes a cameo appearance in the Celestial Caves level from The Legend of Spyro: The Eternal Night where he can be seen frozen in the ice ground.
