Convexity

Convexity

"Convexity acts as an airlock between our world and the Dark Realms beyond. You must stop Cynder before she inserts the final crystal and activates the portal, freeing the Dark Master." - Ignitus, in The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning as he tells Spyro about Convexity.

Convexity is the final level in the game The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning. The environment consists of an endless iridiscent void, with groups of floating platforms to jump from one to the other. A strange, mysterious and slightly creepy voice can be heard in this level calling Spyro's name repeatedly as he gets closer to confronting Cynder. This voice might have been the voice of the Dark Master.

Story

After gathering all four of the needed crystals, Cynder has finally completed her task of ressurrecting the Dark Master. But before the gate to Convexity opens, Spyro comes to stop Cynder and battles her for a final showdown. After hearing the voice of Ignitus echo in his head, Spyro gains the energy to perform a fury powerful enough to free Cynder from the Dark Master's control. Cynder is then reverted back to how she would be if she had not been taken by the Dark Master, a small dragon the same size as Spyro. Spyro then realizes that he needs to save Cynder, and takes her back to the temple as the gate to Convexity opens and attempts to pull the three of them in.

Convexity appears again at the beginning of The Eternal Night, as Spyro was having nightmares of the Dark Master's voice calling his name after he defeats Cynder and saves her from the implosion of altar.

Convexity Breath

Convexity is also the name of the fifth breath that is either only able to be used in the final level of the game. In the three games, The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning, The Legend of Spyro: The Eternal Night, and The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon, the Convexity breath has been usable and could be obtained through different means.

In The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning, the breath was only accessable in the final section of the boss fight with Cynder. It looked similar to the Earth breath, but it was purple and seemed to raise the fury bar with every blast, even if it didn't actually hit Cynder. The Convexity Fury Attack apparently opens a portal to another dimension, allowing Spyro to summon many copies of his head to defeat Cynder.

In The Legend of Spyro: The Eternal Night, the breath was accessable in the second half of the Gaul boss fight but can be unlocked permanently by completing the five "Dragon Challenges." This breath also comes with the Dark Spyro skin. The breath is similar to a laser that, when used while flying, causes Spyro to hover and, while hovering, the beam can be aimed. A melee attack can be used as well that is much faster and more powerful than the standard blows and takes the place of the secondary attack, although it uses no energy. Briefly, in a cutscene, the breath has the effect of partially turning Gaul into stone. When Spyro uses the Convexity Fury Attack, it turns him completely into a statue, which then shatters, killing him.

In The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon, the breath replaces the original Fury and can also be permanently unlocked when all armor pieces from the third set are placed on Spyro and/or Cynder. However, this breath will drain the mana bar very quickly.

Malefor's Convexity Breath

In the final boss fight of The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon, Malefor has the powers of Convexity breath but very different than any breath that the player can control. These abilities include Convexity Fire, Convexity Comet Dash, Convexity Bomb and the normal Convexity breath.
