Template:PlaceLegendThe Swamp is a large wetland that encircles the Dragon Temple, appearing in The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning and serving as Spyro's birthplace. The Silver River is the reason why this large swamp exists.

Description

These remote wetlands are home to countless water-loving life forms. Giant mushrooms tower above the rest of the swamp residents, providing shelter and hiding places for any creature that needs such. It is a dark and foreboding place a majority of the day, due to the forest and mushroom cover overheard. The swamp is not without its dangers. Native predators such as frogweeds and Bulb Spiders live here, and Apes and Growths also lurk amidst the greenery ready to ambush any creature that arouses their suspicion. Dragonflies are among the friendlier residents of the Swamp.

Story

As the purple dragon's egg floated down the Silver River and came to rest near the shore, it was discovered by a family of dragonflies, Flash and Nina. The egg soon hatched, and the baby purple dragon was eventually adopted by the dragonflies, and was named Spyro. On the same day Spyro hatched, Sparx was also born, and the two grew up together like brothers.

Years later, Spyro and Sparx were playing hide and seek, when they are suddenly attacked by Apes. During this attack, Sparx was about to stepped on by the Ape leader, causing Spyro breath fire out of impulse. The dragon then used his new firepower to defeat the remaining Apes and free Sparx when the Ape Leader fled. That night, Spyro and Sparx told their parents, Flash and Nina, about what happened, and Spyro was told that he was not a dragonfly himself, but a stranger from a distant land. Spyro decided to leave the Swamp soon afterwards in search of his true home; Sparx, though reluctant at first, decided to follow along. Spyro was soon pursued by hostile forces of the Apes, but eventually came into contact with a distraught Ignitus, who although pleased that Spyro is alive, feared that with the Dragon Temple under occupation by their enemy, led by a large black dragon named Cynder, their war was already lost.

Trivia

  • The Swamp isn't revisited again for the remainder of the series.
  • A story mistranslation or error in dialogue in The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon has Hunter of Avalar heavily imply that the temple Malefor took over was the Dragon Temple.[1] Because of this error, fans believed that the Swamp that surrounded the Dragon Temple was decimated into The Burned Lands. However, it was revealed years later that Malefor took over and suspended Warfang's city temple in another region of the realms.[2] It is unknown what condition the Swamp was in before and during the events of Dawn of the Dragon.
