A Pirate

Pirates or Skavengers are amphomorphic canine-like beasts that go about the realms in massive flying fleets, and capture inhabitants so that they could force them to fight in a gladitorial arena for the entertainment of the pirates. Hunter, Spyro, Sparx and Mole-Yair were also captured. Their captain was Skabb, but he was too stupid to talk for himself so the real commander of the Fellmuth Pirates were two parrots named Scratch and Sniff.

The Legend of Spyro: The Eternal Night

The pirates captured Spyro and Sparx as a replacement for Arborick, a massive Wooden Sentinel that Spyro had killed. They forced him to fight in a gladitorial arena on the gigantic ship, Fellmuth, against first, the Blundertails, two giant scorpions with riders riding them, then the Ravage Rider, a small, fast and dangerous floating ship, and finally, the Executioner, an armoured humanoid creature in golden armour; he is similar to the Ice King or the Electric King in the previous The Legend of Spyro game. Spyro also discovered, to his shock, that Cynder was captured as well, possibly in the Ancient Grove also when she fled the temple. Skabb orders them to fight, but Cynder only wants to put up a show long enough for the crowd so that they could escape. An attack by Malefor's forces begins so that they can capture Spyro in order to free the Dark Master, but they decide to capture Cynder as bait. Spyro then fights through the pirates to find a map that would lead him to the White Isle, where the Chronicler dwells. When he reaches the captain's quarters at the bow of the ship. he faces Skabb and fights him, but he runs away. Spyro glides through the fleet of small frigates, and reaches Skabb on a floating platform, where he fights him again and defeats him. Sparx knocks out Sniff, one of the parrots who were taunting him. While Scratch, the other parrot, escapes. The later fate of the Pirates is unknown.

The Pirates seem to be part of an alliance of races. (See pirate fleet, if you want to find out more).

Their fleet consists of flying ships.

Sizes, Ranks and Attacks

A Pirate Captain

Pirates come in three different sizes: small, medium, and large. Thier sizes are based on their rank, small pirates are just soldiers, medium pirates are Captains, and large pirates are Commanders.

Soldiers

The Pirate soldiers do not wield any weapons, but they attack by scratching, punching, and leapking into Spyro much like the Apes do. Although they have two knives strapped to thier lower backs, they chose not to use them. These type of pirates are strong in very large numbers or when powered by totems thrown by the Pirate Commanders.

Captains

The Pirate Captains wield sabers and throw dynamite balls. Their sword attacks consist of downward slashs, X pattern like hacks, and an upward slices. Medium pirates sometime strafe off to the side when Spyro approaches or they attack him head on. They throw their bombs at Spyro, trying to take careful aim to not miss their mark. Luckily, they are sort of stupid and most of the time they miss, or hurl it at their own comrades.

Commanders

A Pirate Commander

The Pirate Commanders are the strongest type of Pirate. They wield a flaming cutlass and they throw totems, which empower the lesser pirates to make them stronger and harder to kill. Their sword attacks consist of C like slashs, circular swings, or they barrel right towards Spyro much like the Ape Commanders do.

Blundertails

The Blundertails are not as common as the first three pirates, but are just as dangerous. The scorpion-riding pirates are first faced in the Fellmuth arena as bosses, but they are later on faced as enemies. They have two methods of fighting: in long-range attacks, they fire cannons from their tails, and in short-ranged, they swat you with their pinchers.

Skurvywing Riders

The Skurvywing Riders are not the most common to face, but are seen throughout among the fleet, riding astride their mammavian mounts, the Skurvywings. When facing them, the riders hurl fire bombs at you. To avoid you, they fly out of sight until it is safe for them to attack once again. When they are not attacking you face-to-face, they will drop bombs on you as they fly by. Fortunately, they can't exactly hit you on target, so fly pass them if you can.

Ships

The ships of the Skavengers are sailing ships. But these ships can fly over the realms. This is probably be there way of traveling without always making port, or try to sail around land masses. There is a massive fleet, consisting more than a hundred ships. The Pirates use these ships to travel to different realms and/or different sections of that designated realm to capture various inhabitants for them to fight on the arena of the Fellmuth, mostly those of great strength or power. If they captured weaker races/species, they would put them through slavery, like the Manweresmalls to serve the pirates grog. Even though the Pirates sail their ships in the sky, they mostly sail over the sea still.

Jollyboat

The ships are not the only flying vessels, the jollyboats they have also can fly. The pirates use these rowboats to reach the shore of a land they've reached, or to transport reinforcements to different ships or parts of the Fellmuth when they are assaulted. The boats have oars, but they seem useless as the boats appear to not use them for movement.

Fleet Vessels

Most of the fleet consist of frigate-like ships. Each vessel is commanded by a Commander and possibly a Captain. The Pirates use these ships to travel to different realms and/or different sections of that designated realm to capture various inhabitants for them to fight on the arena of the Fellmuth, mostly those of great strength ot power. If they captured weaker races/species, they transport them on slave ships, and put them through slavery, like the Manweresmalls to serve the pirates grog. But when not being slave ships, these vessels can be warships, and attack enemies that assault their ships or blast them with cannons on deck or from the gunports that line the hulls. The small ships have one mast, the medium ships have two masts, and the large ships have three masts.

Fellmuth

The flagship and largest pirate vessel of the Fleet is the Fellmuth. She is the ship of Captain Skabb, and the one ship where the arena is held at. Once the pirates have succeeded in collecting enough prisoners, they transport them in the ships to the Fellmuth, where the weaker will become slaves, and strongest and/or most powerful will be forced to fight for the pirates' entertainment. The Fellmuth has more prison cells than any of the ships, and holds a crew of more than a million pirates. She has two tall masts, but has no bowsplit. The most notable feature of the ship is the gladitorial arena found in the very center of the gigantic galleon. The ship's helm is at port instead of stern. Due to the brig being at her stern beneath the quarterdeck, the Fellmuth's captain's quarters are at her port. During the siege of the Dark Master's army, the Fellmuth has gone up in flames. Her fate is unknown.

Trivia

  • The largest and highest-ranking of the Skavengers are Commanders. This is false, as commanders come before captains.
  • While they seem to operate like real Caribbean pirates, the Skavengers seem to appear as the stereotypical pirates.
  • The same year this game was advertised and released was at the same time Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End was released. The pirates must have been based on the popularity of the Pirates of the Caribbean series.
