Template:CatNeededThe ability to breathe elements other than fire has been a part of the gameplay since Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly.

In the original series

Fire breath seems to be the most common element. However, other elements can be aquired by using Powerup Gates or magic spells. In the spin-off Advance series, other elements can be obtained by means ranging from spell scrolls to hot peppers.

In The Legend of Spyro trilogy

Normally, dragons can only breathe one element. The color of a dragon's scales seems to reflect that dragon's element. This is most prominent in Ignitus and the other Guardians. Purple Dragons, being a rare species, can breath all elements. Cynder is also an exception because Malefor gave her unique breaths such as Poison, Shadow and Fear. If trained properly, a dragon can use "elemental melee" attacks such as comet dash.

There are several different elements throughout the series:

Fire

The most common element, fire has been Spyro's primary attack in every single game. It usually is used to melt ice or defeat enemies that are too big to charge, but it does not effect metal. In the spin-off game Spyro 2: Season of Flame, it is said that the Dragons use fireflies to gain fire breath, and without them the Dragons can only breath ice. Fire breath can be increased temporarily with a Super Flame Powerup.

In A New Beginning, fire breath is the first thing that makes Spyro realize that he isn't a dragonfly when he uses it to save Sparx from some apes. He later trains his abilities with Ignitus. In The Eternal Night, Spyro loses his abilities and has to re-learn fire breath from the Chronicler, along with the move Comet Dash.

Electricity

Spyro first learns this element in Enter the Dragonfly, where he uses it to power machinery and open a locked gate. In A Hero's Tail, Spyro regains this ability after rescueing the fairy Amp from Gnasty Gnorc. It serves much the same purpose in this game as in the last game. Electricity breath can be obtained in Season of Flame with a Powerup Gate. In Attack of the Rhynoc, Spyro gains this ability after Moneybags gives him a magic battery as a reward for saving him from Butler.

Ice

Shards, snowballs and winter season galore! Ice is kinda boring, but the Ice tail give a large advantage. They slow the enemy down, and also lessen their life. You can have the stream, Polar Bomb, Ice tail and Ice Spikes. In the Legend of Spyro, Cyril taught Spyro to use Ice Breath.

Earth

Probably the most powerful element, it has large attack power, makes huge hits, and can kill one enemy with probably five hits, and you can have an earth flail, shot, pound, boulder, and missle. Whew!In the Legend of Spyro, The Dragon Elder known as Terrador taught Spyro this Breath.

Convexity

Now here's an attack that will blow your mind! This attack is so powerful, a whole pirate crew with three large enemies can be killed at once! It is my favorite, and I use it on Cynder every time(DOTD). This attack in the Dawn of the Dragon is divided in to two. Spyro has the Purple fury and Cynder has the Dark Fury. It's so cool. Try it yourself. There is another fury for the eternal night which turns enemies to stone.Malefor has an extra special convexity breath that is a combonation of convexity, and fire breath making convexity flame and convexity comet dash.

Poison

Now here is a good planner to play! It can poison those pests for at least 15 seconds! There you have a goody. So Cynder can manipulate it only, so what? It's still is a poisonous effective element.

Wind

Blow away the compatition with this element. Just whip out that cyclone and whirl them around. So you can make a giant twister, pretty good because you can send your enemies spiraling, even after you've stopped using it.. Yeah, it makes good combos and it kills small enemies really good pounding, it's good.

Shadow

Engulf the enemy in darkness. Take away the light. Add some blackness to the screen. There's a bad element(in a good way). Rain black apon the enemy. The black suffacating gas. The dark strike. There's a nifty element.

Fear

Take away the teddy bear. Scare the bajeebers out of the enemies. Paralize them in scaredness. Make them suck their thumbs with Cynder's siren scream. Frighten the freaks with your phantom fright move. Them grublins will pull off their heads with scaredness.

Water

Soak them gnorcs with water. Push the puzzles like waterwheels with water breath. It can only slow down enemies, not kill them. It only kills fodder and is exclusive for Spyro: A Hero's Tail.

Bubble

Just made to capture dragonflies in Enter the Dragonfly.
