Evening Lake

From the Spyro Wiki, the Spyro and Skylanders encyclopedia

Template:PlaceOriginal

The Evening Lake is the third Homeworld of Spyro: Year of the Dragon.

Guide

It features a vast lake, a majority of the portals underwater. It has a ruined Tudor-medieval style castle submerged in the lake. It introduces the Invincibility powerup, similar to the two homeworlds before it. Many towers are situated in and around the lake, often housing portals. There are many smashable walls in the world. There is also a large shipwreck here and interestingly enough, a whale swims around the lake indefinitely.

Bentley is being kept prisoner here. The portal to his home is the only portal that is not underwater. Spyro can pay Moneybags to free him. Bianca also entraps Hunter in a cage underground here, but later frees him after learning on what the Sorceress plans to do with the baby dragons.

Description

Evening Lake is a large core world made up entirely of a gigantic, clear lake and a giant castle sitting on top of it. It is rimmed by a few hills and has plenty of grass to sleep in, but these places are scarce, as the lake takes up almost all of the area. The castle sitting on top of the lake is rooted via pillars to the bottom of the lake bed, giving swimming adventurers a creepy place to explore. With its high towers and pointed peaks, the castle is the best place to stay if you are ever visiting the Forgotten Worlds and can’t find an inn! Below, the lake stretched out and seems to engulf anything that gets near it. It has tons of hidden treasures under its surface, including hidden underwater caves, stone cliffs, a sunken pirate ship, and even a live whale! But don’t worry, Ol’ Blue the whale may capture you in his mouth, but he’ll always spit you back out.

Realms

  • Felinia (unseen)

Eggs

  • Swim towards the large whale swimming around the lake and into its mouth. Inside you'll meet up with the egg.
  • Break through the wall right by the Fireworks Factory portal.
  • Continue along here by jumping round the corner and go up the ladder. Follow it round. Go through the doorway just past the area that encircles the rocket.
  • Head up the ladder in the middle of the first area of the lake and collect the gems up here, then glide over to the platform nearby.
  • Fly through the flamethrowers using the Invincibility powerup. At the end is a egg.

Glitches and Errors

  • In the NTSC and PAL versions, it has the same music of Sunrise Spring
  • There is a glitch which allows you to swim in the air and see the cage Hunter is placed in during a cutscene, and the belly of the whale. If you enter the belly of the whale a second time, you won't be able to get out unless you quit the game. This glitch requires the Dead Mode glitch in order to be done.

Etymology

Evening Lake, as the name suggests, is a large lake set in perpetual dusk. 'Evening' comes from the Spyro 3 Homeworld Naming Scheme.

Dialogue

Bianca

"Listen to me, dragon... Spyro... this is serious now. The Sorceress is planning a trap for you, and if she catches you... Believe me, you don't want to know what she's going to do. Look, I promise to take good care of the rest of the eggs, I mean it. Just take Hunter and go back home, before... before... I can't say it. Just go!"

Professor

  • "Oh dear, oh dear.. I've been trying to build a rocket to take you to Midnight Mountain, but I appeared to have misplaced my plans. Now I can't even remember where I was working."
  • "Don't worry about me, I'm just gathering my thoughts. Let's see, I was working on the plans, some ninjas appeared... Hmm, yes.. Then everything gets fuzzy."

Moneybags

  • "..heheh.. The Sorceress has a real prize on her hands here. It took two dozen Rhynocs to capture this dimwitted furball, so you better believe he's not going to come out cheap."
  • "Good grief, dragon, what happened to all your money? How am I supposed to swindle-- uh, I mean, help you if you can't even find any gems?"
  • "Where are you getting all this money, Spyro? It's not lying around on the ground, is it? Uh, is it? Ah, what do I care? It's mine now."
  • "Very well, then. I was having rather fun poking him with a stick anyway."

Bentley

  • "I believe the denezins of this land plan to create a rocket propulsion device of some kind in order to help you with your journey. I'll try to be of some assistance, but I'm afraid you'll still need a representative from each world in order to complete the device."
  • "Hop aboard, Spyro, and bravely go where no dragon has gone before! Well, not in the last thousand years, at any rate."
  • "Thanks for freeing me. Why don't you come visit me in my homeworld."

Jasper

  • "Good thief dragon to see if you can give me to build this whirligig."
  • "Hop aboard."
