Quickwitted and fleet of foot, this lightning lizard says more than necessary and simply explodes onto any subject that sparks his interest. Well-versed in lore and legend, he is only too happy to add to any tale - as a wyrm of words, his spectacular speech will sizzle your sound sensors and burst your brain cells. Being the most excitable of the four, he is best suited for battles in the air allowing him to whip, whirl, flash, and fry enemies that may whizz by.
And, according to Sparx in The Legend of Spyro: The Eternal Night, "His stories will put anyone to sleep"; he may very well have swallowed a Thesaurus with all that he can fit into a sentence! Nevertheless, Volteer is a friend and fellow to all, though none can keep that electric tongue of his from constantly wagging.
Volteer was one of the four Guardians who guarded the Dragon eggs inside the Dragon Temple. When the Temple was under attack by the Dark Master's army, Volteer warned Ignitus of the coming battle and fought alongside him with Cyril and Terrador to defend the Temple. While Ignitus worked to save the egg that contained Spyro. When Ignitus returned, Volteer and the other Guardians have been overrun.
Volteer fought alongside the Dragon Army to fight against the dark army, led by a large, black powerful Dragon named Cynder. Cynder managed to defeat all of the Dragons and capture the Guardians, all except Ignitus. Cynder took Volteer to Dante's Freezer so she could drain his power of Electricity into a crystal.
Spyro eventually rescued Volteer and returned to the Temple and trained Spyro the art of Electricity. Volteer told Spyro and Ignitus what happened during his capture and Ignitus sent Spyro to look for the other Guardians. It was also very clear that he and Cyril didn't get along very well.
The Legend of Spyro: The Eternal Night
When the Temple was under attack by Gaul's army, Volteer and the others fought back and drove them out. After the invasion, Volteer couldn't believe, as well as the other Guardians, that the Chronicler existed and sent visions to Spyro. Ignitus sent Volteer with Cyril to go to the mainlands to learn what news they can.
Volteer waits at the Dragon City of Warfang along with the other Guardians for Spyro, Sparx, and Cynder's return. When the Golem attacks, he helps distract it, along with the other dragons, and helps Spyro, Cynder and Sparx by breaking down a door behind three enemies, letting them out of that area.
Trivia
In the Italian version of The Legend of Spyro Trilogy, He is known as: "Volter". (The second e is taken away to make it pronounced a bit more Italian.)
If the Legend of Spyro trilogy was translated in Japan, then Volteer would be known as ボルテエルBoruteeruin Japanese.
He sounds more tired in Dawn of the Dragon because it's set 3 years later after The Eternal Night. Although, He was still voiced by Corey Burton, just like in the previous two games.
Volteer was originally going to have more than one dialogue in Dawn of the Dragon in a comical scene with Cyril, but the producers didn't have enough time to add the extra scene in.
His Japanese name is translated to Korean as in: 보루테에루 Boluteelu.
His Finnish voice was done by: Bruno Lähteenmäki.
His Italian voice was done by: Riccardo Rovatti. Just like in the Original English cast, His Italian voice actor was kept in all 3 Legend of Spyro games.
If The Legend of Spyro series had a Japanese release, then Volteer's Japanese voice would have probably been done by Ryūsei Nakao, in which he dubbed over some of Corey Burton's roles in Japanese, such as from Star Wars and a few Disney movies.
