The Wyverns first appeared when [[Spyro (Legend of Spyro)|Spyro]] and [[Cynder]] were defending the [[Cheetah Village]] against the [[Grublins]]. After defeating the first wave of Grublins, Sparx caught sight a group of flying creatures heading towards them and recognized them as dragons, exclaiming that they were saved since dragons are on the good side. However, upon close inspection, they weren't dragons at all, but grublin-like dragons as Sparx panicks upon this realization. Wyverns are a type of enemy in The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon, and are part of Malefor's Army. They resemble dragons, but have a dark red body, wings that stretch from the back of their arms to their tail, and three pairs of insect-like legs.
