Boss Realms are special realms in which Spyro fights a boss. There is one boss realm per homeworld.
"Spyro the Dragon" Series
In the Spyro the Dragon series, boss realms are similar to other realms in that they contain gems, a dragon (Jacques has two dragons, while all the rest have one), and standard enemies. Defeating the boss is not necessary to advance to the next homeworld. They are distinct from ordinary realms in that they are home to a specific native boss. Spyro usually encounters the boss toward the end of the realm, and pursues the boss through a portion of the realm, attacking it along the way until it is defeated.
In subsequent games, Boss Realms consist of arenas or enclosed areas, where Spyro is trapped until he can defeat the boss associated with the realm. Spyro must defeat the boss in order to advance to the next homeworld. In Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage!, there were no collectables found or rewarded for defeating the bosses, but in Spyro 3, you received an egg for defeating the bosses. The battle begins immediately (however, if you do not move whatsoever, the boss will not make any moves to attack you, usually), and occurs in the same general location the entire time, although the nature of the attacks Spyro and the boss use against one another sometimes varies during the course of the battle.
In Spyro: A Hero's Tail, Boss Realms are the darkest places of the Realms. They consist of a passage which goes on until the music changes to a scary theme. These are the descriptions
- Gnasty's Cave (a short passage, Electric Breath reward, it also has an egg with the owner of it's set.)
- Watery Tomb (a long passage, Water Breath Reward, it also has four crabs along the way.)
- Red's Chamber (a medium passage, Ice Breath Reward, it also has an Ice Breath Training Area.)
- Red's Lair (a small doorway, No Reward, before the doorway, there are lasers and Gnorcs.)
