Ripto (リプトー Riputo in Japanese) is a short Dinosaur and one of Spyro's greatest enemies. He wears a cape and uses a scepter to cast magic in battle. He is a persistant enemy of Spyro, appearing in several games. He has two minions, Crush and Gulp, who serve him and carry out his orders.

He was the main villain in Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage, Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly, Spyro: Season of Flame, and Spyro: Attack of the Rhynocs. He shared this role with Dr. Neo Cortex in Spyro Orange: The Cortex Conspiracy.

Biography

A Riptoc who hated Dragons, Ripto had enlisted Crush and Gulp at Molten Crater in order to help him wage war on their race, before he was accidentally warped to Avalar by Hunter. Upon arrival, he set about enslaving the worlds, despite the Superportal being shut down by the quick thinking of Zoe and Elora, who scattered the orbs across Avalar.

Ripto's reign brought disaster to Avalar, and he was eventually defeated by Spyro, who had been summoned by the Professor from a portal in Glimmer. During Ripto's boss battle, he magically created a mechanised version of Gulp and a large machanical bird for protection.

One year later, Ripto succesfully attacked the Dragon Realms, scattering the Dragonflies far and wide. Once again, he was foiled by Spyro during a battle in which he turns into a giant monster..

Trivia:

  • Ripto got his name from looking at the title of Spyro in Japanese. Spyro in Japanese (スパイロ) looks very similar to Ripto in English, thus, giving the development team a good name for an enemy.
  • He appeared in Spyro 3 in an epilogue page with Gnasty Gnorc discussing the "Spyro Problem". A picture of him can be found, oddly enough, on the underside of Spyro's Skateboard.
  • Also in Spyro 3, a skateboard trick, the Raging Ripto, is named after him. This is perfomed by doing either two front flips or two black flips and three side rolls, essentialy a Gnasty Gnorc with a extra roll. It is the highest scoring trick in the game, giving 3000 points the first time it is perfomed.
