Glimmer is the first realm of the Summer Forest home world in Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage! and in the Reignited Trilogy remaster of the second game. It is the first place Spyro visits in the game, as it serves as the tutorial realm.
Just after Spyro's arrival in in their realm, the Gemcutters are being terrorized by a mob of lizards who are stealing their gems, and they request Spyro's help to stop them.

Gem Lamp Flight Outdoors (Difficulty: ★☆☆☆☆) |
Located at the end of the level, left of the exit portal; jump into and out of the corridor. This leads outside the cave. Make a right, and you'll see a platform with a Gem Cutter and two pyramids on it. Activate the power-up allowing you to fly for a short time (It requires 10 spirit particles to activate). Use the power up to flame the 6 gem lamps before the flying ability runs out. Once all 6 are lit, Kanga will give you an Orb. |
Gem Lamp Flight In Cave (Difficulty: ★★☆☆☆) |
Located inside the Cave, the power-up required is at the top of a ladder. To learn to climb, you must travel to Autumn Plains and pay Moneybags 500 gems. Once you learn to climb, use the power-up, & like the first challenge, you need to flame all the lamps quickly to receive your orb. Roo will then give you the orb. If you don't want to wait, you can try using the flying power-up from the Outdoor one to reach the Indoor one. This can be very tricky, though. Pass through the power-up outside, and fly through the windows into the cave. Once you enter the tunnel, your power-up will start to reduce more quickly. Once inside the main area of the cave, fly along the side to Spyro's left. Make sure you're flying as high as you can, enough to touch the ceiling. If you do this right, the power-up will run out just in time for you to glide to the landing at the top of the ladder. Don't forget to hover! |
Lizard Hunt (Difficulty: ★☆☆☆☆) |
Located not far from the first gem lamp challenge, head to the 2nd plateau. To Spyro's right, you will see a small cavern with a Gemcutter inside. This challenge is a great aiming and shooting tutorial. Follow Bounsa to all 6 locations to shoot the 6 lizards. Use Triangle/Y to aim. In the end, he will give you an orb. |

Spyro Reignited Trilogy
Trivia
General
- Even though this is the "Tutorial Level" in Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage!, you learn to glide in Summer Forest.
- Glimmer is the only one of the 18 main worlds of Avalar that does not have an opening cutscene upon entering unless you count the one that plays while starting a new game.
- Glimmer is one of the few stages in the game not to have a proper "sister" level. It shares this distinction with Hurricos, all of the Speedway Realms, Boss Realms, and Dragon Shores.
- Though one could argue that Hurricos is the sister realm to Glimmer, due to both involving enemies taking over the workplace of the respective realms' inhabitants.
- There is also the argument that Dragon Shores could serve as the sister stage, as Glimmer is the tutorial stage, and Dragon Shores is the bonus stage, a reward for "mastering" the game.
- Early in development, Glimmer was named "Sparkle".[1]
- According to scrapped dialogue from Elora, the Gemcutters harvest the gems from Glimmer to provide for Avalar.[2]
Original Game
- It is possible to skip paying Moneybags for the bridge. It involves using the Superfly power-up to fly across, as there are enough enemies to activate it before the bridge. There are two ways to do this:
- If the All-Abilities cheat is in effect, Spyro can simply climb the ladder and use the Superfly power-up to fly over.
- One can also use the Double Jump glitch to go out of bounds and reach the power-up that way.
- Even though Glimmer is a Summer Forest realm, it uses the same textures that appear on some of the portals in Autumn Plains.
- Once activating the bridge, Zoe's shadow becomes glitched and appears underneath the bridge, although she is flying above the bridge.
- There are three ways to get the orb from the second Superfly challenge without having the ability to climb up the ladder and without cheats or hacks. The first method is to use the power-up from the outside portion to fly into the cave. Make sure you're close to the roof of the cave when the power-up begins to drain, and if you do it right you'll be able to glide over to the ledge where the second Superfly challenge is. In the Reignited Trilogy, due to the power-up running out faster, in order to achieve this, you must instead of gliding, charge as fast as you can before you cross the bridge completely, and glide over the ledge. The second method is to jump on the gem nearest the ladder and the ledge upon which the power-up is located and glide over, only to hover as soon as you reach the ledge. The third and final method is to use your permanent flame breath from completing 100% of the game and flame all of the gem lamps promptly.
- These exploits were not fixed in the Reignited Trilogy.[3]
- The Quit Game/Exit Level is not in the PAUSE menu when you start your new game.
- Bounsa the Gemcutter is one of the only NPC's in the series to use a whirlwind, as he uses it to reach a high ledge while doing the Lizard Hunt challenge.
Reignited Trilogy
- In the Reignited Trilogy, Bounsa now simply jumps up instead of using the whirlwind.
- It is still possible to skip paying Moneybags in this version of the game, but it is harder to pull off. If you jump, glide and hover to the same green gem near the Superfly powerup area then jump, glide and hover over to the Superfly powerup then use Superfly to glide past him.
- This realm's exit portal is the only one in the game to not have the "Return Home" text on it. This is because the player starts in Glimmer and has not been introduced to Summer Forest yet at this point, and thus having the text there wouldn't make sense.
