Cutscenes

Opening Scene

A monk waves his hand to two other monks who are carrying a goat. The camera shows they have captured a Yeti that has been rampaging the town. The monks try to push the goat down for the Yeti to eat, but after the sound of the beast eating, the second monk is missing. The goat is still there, who does a "baa," then looks at the camera. The Yeti has eaten the second Monk instead of the goat.

Closing Scene

Two of the monks try to lift a block of stone. The monk on the stone tried to lift it with his chant but failed. The other monk then tried, but it still did not work. He tried again, in a softer voice. However, he lifts it too quickly, and it hits the roof, crushing the monk on top of it. After realizing that he had squashed his fellow brother, the monk fled the tomb.

Trivia

General

  • The monks presumably practice a faith akin to Tibetan Buddhism, as can be inferred from their clothing, the setting of their world, accents, various statues resembling the common image of the Buddha, and the presence of Yaks (which are native to the Himalayas and Tibet in the real world).
  • An Icebuilder in Crystal Glacier refers to this realm as Colossus Valley, which is an early name for the level. It can be an extended name considering the landscape here.
  • The yeti is counted as one of the enemies that releases a Spirit Particle, but the particle is never seen in the original game. In the Reignited Trilogy, the spirit particle is shown when it is defeated.
  • According to Elora's scrapped level dialogue for Colossus, the monks spend most of their time chanting, meditating, and moving large objects with their songs, until the yeti came down from the mountains and took up residence in the Colossus temple, and the monks had to keep it well fed to prevent it from rampaging Colossus, as yetis will eat anything.[1]
    • The dialogue also mentions that the apprentice monks learn from their masters on how to use their powers, which takes a lot of concentration to move objects, not often getting it right the first time.[1]

Original Game

  • Colossus is paired with Idol Springs. An early name for the realm, found in the code for the demo, was Colossus Steppes, and Idol Springs was to be called Colossus Springs.
  • While Brother Ned said that Spyro "...should kill the yeti", the dialogue box replaced "kill" with "torch." It's currently unknown why, though it is possible it was for censorship.
    • Additionally, in the Reignited Trilogy, Brother Ned's spoken dialogue replaces "kill" with "torch," matching the text in the dialogue box.
  • When the PlayStation Network released Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage!, this realm and Idol Springs failed to upload completely, and the game was taken off the market. This glitch was later fixed, and the game has been re-released ever since.
  • This realm's background appears to be a variant of the Artisans realm in Spyro the Dragon, with white hills in the background, possibly snow-covered, as well as below the horizon.
  • When defeating a Rockhopper penguin, they make the exact same sounds as Sgt. Byrd from Spyro: Year of the Dragon whenever he takes damage.

Reignited Trilogy

  • The gold statues now reflect the Monks' passion for hockey by holding a single hockey stick in one hand and a hockey puck in the other.
  • There is a shoutout to one of the trilogy's concept artists, Nicholas Kole, hidden in the hockey bleachers in the form of a golden mustache plaque.
  • The Rockhopper penguins are similar in design to a young version of one of the penguins from Surf's Up like Cody Maverick.
  • In the main temple, there are portraits of the Artisans homeworld and High Caves Magic Crafters realm, indicating that the monks have visited the Dragon Worlds.
