Butterfly Jars[citation needed] are a recurring object in the Spyro franchise, first appearing in Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage!. They are glass jars containing a purple butterfly. In nearly every appearance, Butterfly Jars are transparent and are closed by a yellow lid. An exception to this is Spyro: Season of Ice, in which Butterfly Jars are light blue.
Spyro can break a Butterfly Jar using any attack to free the butterfly. Sparx can eat the butterfly to grant Spyro with an extra life.
