They, like Spyro, are a unique dragon species who are gifted with powerful magical energy. That energy is strong enough to withstand the negative and dark effects of magic.

There were a total of two known Purple Dragons who were included with this special status: Spyro and the Sorcerer.

- In the the original Spyro games before Shadow Legacy, Purple Dragons weren't a major plot device. Several minor dragons from the first game were purple, namely Alban, Ragnar, Asher, Sadiki, and Azizi. Another dragon in the original Spyro: Year of the Dragon was also purple.
