Story
History
Long ago, the Cheetah race worshipped the first purple dragon Malefor alongside Dragonkind and the Moles. After Malefor's fall to darkness and the ongoing war that followed, the cheetahs gained a fearful distrust of dragons, believing them to be the cause of the misfortunes that befell them. The cheetah clan broke away from their former allies and isolated themselves from the outside world to protect themselves and their village; in addition, they closed off the tunnel in the valley that lead directly to Dragon City, calling it the "Forbidden Tunnel", and they passed down the story of Malefor's past to their descendants.
During The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning
Many years later, a corrupted Cynder came to power while under Malefor's control, terrorizing the cheetah clan along with the surrounding land she enslaved. This increased the mistrust of Dragons into the already sheltered cheetah tribe, including the current village leader, Prowlus. Despite this, not all cheetahs share the same fear and distrust of dragons as their leader; namely one warrior named Hunter, who was friends with Ignitus.
The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon
Three years after Malefor returned, the Cheetahs were forced into action when his army threatened their way of life.[1] Hunter attempted to help the Dragons in the war against Malefor before his village got involved. After their encounter with Spyro and a reformed Cynder, the cheetahs joined the Dragon race in their fight against Malefor's army and the Destroyer.
Profile
- “These peaceful people live a quiet life in the wilds of Spyro’s world. They show little interest in the affairs of the larger world and have a fearful mistrust of dragonkind. As Malefor’s army encroaches on their way of life, they may be forced to action.”

Trivia
- According to the mural in the Ruins of Warfang, the Cheetahs worshipped Malefor centuries ago along with the Moles and the rest of Dragonkind.
- One particular plotline in Spyro: Shadow Legacy is similar to Dawn of the Dragon's. In Shadow Legacy, Spyro is thrown in jail after being accused by Kasi of being the cause of the Calamity that brought the Shadow Realm to the Savannah all because he was a purple dragon. Hunter was imprisoned as well for siding with Spyro. Within the reboot of Dawn of the Dragon, Spyro and Cynder were chained by Prowlus for being a purple dragon and the former servant of Malefor respectively. Hunter was chained for bringing in the two dragons, who are part of the race who caused misfortunes to the Cheetah Village.
- The cheetahs are similar to the elves in many forms of literature, as they are an agile race who live solitary lives and mostly wield light weaponry such as bows and arrows.
- Three of the blue cheetahs in the village are named in the game files, "Aramys, Gui and Portos", based on the names of The Three Musketeers. Aramys is the blue cheetah who assists Chief Prowlus in fighting off the Grublins and informs Prowlus that Meadow is missing, Gui is the blue cheetah who stands next to Aramys and suggested going outside the village to find Meadow, and Portos only stands next to the two yellow cheetahs in the same cutscene.
