List of Spyro details

From the Spyro Wiki, the Spyro and Skylanders encyclopedia

A list of common questions and answers often brought up by the Spyro the Dragon fan community. The answers to each question are supported by official sources that is listed at the bottom of the article.

Original Spyro series

Are Ripto, Crush and Gulp dinosaurs?

The game manuals for Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage!, Season of Flame, Attack of the Rhynocs, and Spyro Orange: The Cortex Conspiracy.[1][2][3][4] The manuals for Spyro 2: Season of Flame mention Crush and Gulp as dinosaurs.[5]

Are Purple Dragons in the original Spyro trilogy special and rare like their Legend of Spyro counterpart? In Spyro: Shadow Legacy, they added that purple dragons are a special breed.

In the original Spyro series and the Spyro Reignited Trilogy, purple-colored dragons including Spyro are only regular dragons with their color being a regular thing and are not a special, rare breed. The detail in Shadow Legacy about purple dragons being a special breed is only canon in that game.

The Legend of Spyro

Is The Legend of Spyro reboot in the same universe as the original Spyro games before it?

The Legend of Spyro trilogy is a complete retelling of Spyro and the world established for him. It was created to be an introduction for new potential Spyro games set after Dawn of the Dragon after Vivendi Games decided to reboot the Spyro character instead of abandoning the IP in response to the dwindling sales reception of the games created after the original Spyro trilogy.[6] In 2008, Activision made the decision to cancel The Legend of Spyro continuity and go in a different direction on Spyro with the Skylanders. Interestingly enough, early press releases for The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning has the game stated to be a prequel that takes place directly before the first Spyro game in the franchise that tells Spyro's origins.[7][8][9]

How old are Spyro, Sparx and Cynder in The Legend of Spyro reboot?

During the events of A New Beginning, Spyro and Cynder are both 12 years old. Sparx shares the same age since he was born on the same day as Spyro when Flash and Nina found his egg.[10][11] In The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon, three years have passed since The Eternal Night, which makes Spyro, Sparx and Cynder 15 years old.[12]

Skylanders franchise

Is Skylands the same world from The Legend of Spyro reboot?

The world of Skylands is not the same world featured in The Legend of Spyro. Both of their origins differ so greatly that they contradict each other. As explained in Skylanders:_Imaginators, Skylands and everything in it was created by a group of mystical beings called the Ancients, who used the power of Mind Magic to conjure Skylands into being. It is stationed at the very center of the universe and all worlds are connected to it. The world in The Legend of Spyro, although similar to Skylands in terms of appearance at the end of Dawn of the Dragon, is only a planet that was broken into fragments due to an apocalyptic event caused by a giant golem.

Is Skylanders Spyro the same Spyro from the original Spyro series or one from The Legend of Spyro?

Toys For Bob, game developer of Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure, has stated in interviews that the Skylanders incarnation of Spyro is a different character entirely from Classic Spyro and Legend Spyro.[13] His backstory and personality traits contain references to both of his previous incarnations.

Michael Graham, one of the producers of The Legend of Spyro and Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure, mentioned that he and the development team wanted to reintroduce Spyro and other related characters in a way that was suited for the world of Skylands, while also leaving it to longtime Spyro the Dragon fans to use their own imaginations to fill in the blanks. For many fans, Skylanders represents a fresh start for both Spyro and Cynder, but there are enough nods to previous games to allow longtime fans the freedom to imagine their own connections with the past.[14]

Is Cynder and Malefor the same characters from The Legend of Spyro reboot?

No, the Cynder and Malefor featured in the Skylanders franchise are not the same characters from The Legend of Spyro reboot.

Toys For Bob and the producers behind The Legend of Spyro only borrowed references from the Legend trilogy to create Cynder's backstory for Skylanders. Her appearance in the franchise was to introduce the new generation of players to the character while also adding nods to previous Spyro games that Spyro fans are familiar with.[14]

Skylanders IDW comic writer of Skylanders: Return of the Dragon King, David Rodriguez, stated that Skylanders Malefor is his own character with his own motivations and desires that are separate from his Legend counterpart.[15] His history with Skylanders Cynder is based on their Legend counterparts, but Malefor's mysterious connection to Spyro in Skylanders is currently left ambiguous due to the cancellation of the Skylanders IDW comics.

Why aren't Spyro and Cynder in love with each other in Skylanders

Toys For Bob created a new relationship between Spyro and Cynder for the Skylanders continuity that is separate from their relationship in The Legend of Spyro reboot. The clear contrast between their upbringings and way of solving problems are noted to have made their friendship more interesting for the development team.[14] In short, Spyro and Cynder's relationship in Skylanders is completely platonic with no romantic connection between them. In Skylanders: Return of the Dragon King, Spyro regards Cynder as one of his oldest friends and one of the greatest Skylanders.

Skylanders Academy (TV series)

Are the characters and locations in this show the same as the ones from the main Skylanders game canon?

The Skylands featured in Skylanders Academy, along with known characters and locations, are not the same as their game counterparts.[16] The television series is a spinoff to the storyline of the games with no direct tie-ins to sequels, being its own separate identity.[17]

Spyro, Cynder, Malefor, Stealth Elf, Eruptor, Master Eon and other characters featured in Skylanders Academy all have different origins, personalities and connections that separate them from their game counterparts. Kaos, Hex and Flynn are the only characters to retain their original voice actors.

  16. We love the actors who did the voices for the characters in the games (some of whom we cast for the show as well). But in regards to our leads, we were trying to give them voices that were distinct from the games, just as their characters are distinct from the games..
