The Dragon Realms, also known as the Dragon Worlds and the Dragon Kingdom, are a diverse group of worlds that make up the primary home of the Dragons in the Spyro the Dragon series and throughout the majority of the Spyro franchise.

History

In Spyro: Year of the Dragon, it is revealed that over a thousand years ago, the Dragons originally lived in the Forgotten Worlds, ruling over the land and providing it with magic it needs to thrive. One day, a dragon had a disagreement with the Sorceress, and in her fury, she banished all of the dragons to the other side of the world, accidentally causing the Forgotten Worlds to gradually lose its magic. Not wanting anything to do with the Sorceress again, the Dragons settled and named their new home the "Dragon Realms", forgetting about their former home as the years went by.

Spyro the Dragon

The entirety of Spyro the Dragon takes place in the Dragon Realms. It has six Home Worlds, which are accessed in order of Artisans, Peace Keepers, Magic Crafters, Beast Makers, Dream Weavers, and lastly Gnasty's World. With help from the balloonists, Spyro is able to travel between the Home Worlds.

• Artisans - a grassland filled with hills as well as medieval architecture of castles, bridges, and towers.
• Peace Keepers - a desert land inhabited by dragons whose job is to enforce order and maintain peace between the realms.
• Magic Crafters - a mountaintop land inhabited by shy dragons who are experts in magic.
• Beast Makers - a swampland inhabited by tough dragons who create the many inhabitants of the Dragon Realms.
• Dream Weavers - a city in the sky that inhabited by dragons who manage the dreams of other dragons and help those who have had nightmares.
• Gnasty's World - a desolate realm under Gnasty's control, from which he launched his assault on the Dragon Realms.

In the original games of Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage! and Spyro: Year of the Dragon, the Dragon Realms' main home world (as seen in the intros of both games) does have various portals worth noting is the portal to Dragon Shores, as seen in Spyro 2's intro. In Year of the Dragon, Spyro and Hunter venture through a hole in the realm to reach the first home world of the Forgotten Realms.

In Spyro Reignited Trilogy, this "realm" seems to be non-existent, with its role in the trilogy mainly being replaced by the grassy plains of Stone Hill.

Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage!

In Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage!, Dragon Realms has only one place, Dragon Shores.

Spyro: Year of the Dragon

In Spyro: Year of the Dragon, it is revealed that the dragons lived in the Forgotten Worlds long ago, but were eventually banished by Sorceress. This led the dragons to find a new home at the Dragon Realms, which is found on the ground level above the Forgotten Worlds.

Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly

In Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly, an area of Dragon Realms serves as the single hub throughout the entire game, much like other home worlds. It is larger than the hub levels in previous games. The focal point of this world is the Castle, which leads to Dragon Castles (from Spyro Orange). While not explicitly stated in Enter the Dragonfly, the home world in this game, referred to simply as "The Dragon Realms," is geographically connected to the other "Dragon Realm" home worlds. Unlike the first game, Spyro uses unique transportation methods, rather than portals, to access the other areas. For example, to get to Crop Circle Country, Spyro rides a UFO from a barn. He can gain access to the hub's outer sections after unlocking various gates scattered throughout.

The main area is a beautifully crafted home world full of lush green fields and comprised of a predominately hilly landscape. As Spyro leaves the main area of the Dragon Realms, the landscape varies depending on which passage to another realm is close by. For the boss level, blocked by a portal cap, it can be entered through glitches (i.e. swimming in air), or completing all levels.

• Dragonfly Dojo - based on an Asian dojo. This place is very peaceful with beautiful scenery.
• Crop Circle Country - a farm where aliens often appear.
• Luau Island - a tropical island realm based on Hawaii.
• Cloud 9 - a city in the clouds.
• Monkey Monastery - a mountaintop realm where monks live.
• Honey Marsh - a realm surrounded by an ocean made of honey. The alligator inhabitants constantly have problems with the bees who make the honey.
• Thieves Den - a dark and gloomy place where thieves keep their loot.
• Jurassic Jungle - a prehistoric jungle surrounded by lava.

Spyro 2: Season of Flame

In Spyro 2: Season of Flame, this Dragon Realms has these places:

• Sunny Plains
• Celestial Plains
• Starry Plains

Spyro: Shadow Legacy

The history of the Dragon Realms was somewhat retconned in this storyline, with a storybook legend in the game stating that the Dragon Realms was either founded by a group of ancient dragons that fled a natural catastrophe in the Forgotten Worlds, or was discovered by the Great Sea Dragon.

Home Worlds and Realms

The Dragon Realms is made up of six separate homeworlds, which can be traveled to with the balloonists. Each homeworld has five portals that each lead to a local realm; three leading to regular realms, one that leads to a flight realm and one more that leads to a boss realm.

Trivia

• In the Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly instruction manual, a picture is featured of a portal in the castle instead of the closed doors in the actual game. It could have been the portal to the removed level Enchanted Forest.
• In Enter the Dragonfly, rock spitting was to be a feature in Dragon Realms, but was cut.
