Whale

From the Spyro Wiki, the Spyro and Skylanders encyclopedia
(Redirected from The Whale)
The Whale
Role: Neutral
Home World: Evening Lake
First appearance: Spyro: Year of the Dragon (2000)
Latest appearance: Spyro Reignited Trilogy (2018)

The Whale is an aquatic animal that swims within the lake of the Evening Lake home world in Spyro: Year of the Dragon. If Spyro gets too close to him the first time, he will open his mouth and suck Spyro inside. Inside the belly, Spyro will come to find a Dragon Egg with a baby Dragon called Jonah. If Spyro swims out through his mouth, the Whale will barf him out. The whale will not swallow Spyro again after this.

In the Spyro Reignited Trilogy, the Whale now wears a yellow floral swim skirt and would open and close his mouth, even after Spyro recovered the Dragon Egg within his belly. Unlike in the original game where inside the belly is the spine, ribs, the tongue and mouth, the Reignited version has more detail such as teeth, crates, barnacles and even an underwater wall lamp, similar to the ones found outside in Evening Lake.

Trivia

  • The dragon rescued in the whale is named Jonah. Jonah is a character in the Bible that was actually swallowed by a whale (or a giant fish, as the scripture says).
  • By using the swim in the air glitch in Evening Lake, Spyro can swim out the net to find not just the cage where Hunter is kept in the cutscenes, but also the whale's belly where if entered, can never come out unless the player quits or warps to another level.
  • In the original, after Spyro retrieves the Dragon Egg in his belly, the whale will not swallow him again; however, in the Reignited Trilogy, Spyro can be swallowed again after retrieving the egg.
