Colossus, also known as Colossus Valley, is the second realm of the Summer Forest home world in Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage! and its remake in the Reignited Trilogy. It can be accessed after completing Glimmer.

Colossus is a world filled with Monks who have been terrorized by a yeti. The world is filled with large statues that resemble the Monks. The Monks talk like characters out of a cheesy Karate movie and resemble the workers from Idol Springs. Each time you help one out he'll use his levitating powers to open a new path for you. They also have a passion for Hockey.
The Monks here are being terrorized by a Yeti, but they managed to trap it by sealing all the doors. Brother Harry asks Spyro to talk to the other monks so that they can open the doors and lead him to the Yeti.

The Yellow monk at the start of the scene waves his hand to two other monks who are carrying a goat and then it shows that they have captured a Yeti that has been rampaging in their town. It will then show them trying to push the Ram down for the Yeti to eat, but after the camera closeup and the sound of the beast eating you then notice that the Goat is still there, who does a "baa", then looks at the camera. Since the other monk is not visable, it is likely that he was eaten by the Yeti.

One of the monks, who is standing on top of the statue, raises his arms and begins to chant, and the statue floats a little. He stops chanting, and the statue slowly descends to the ground again. Apparently, this was a demonstration of how to control telekinetic power through chanting. The monk on the statue may be a teacher and the monk below him a pupil. The teacher then lets his pupil give it a try. The pupil begins chanting and suddenly stops when he sees the statue rumble for a moment. He resumes chanting but accidentally releases too much psychic energy on the statue, as it ascends too quickly and crushes his mentor against the ceiling. The student then sees his mistake and flees the room, possibly to avoid getting in trouble.  &nbsp

Trivia

General

  • The monks presumably practice a faith akin to Tibetan Buddhism, as can be inferred from their clothing, the setting of their world, accents, various statues resembling the common image of the Buddha, and the presence of Yaks (which are native to the Himalayas and Tibet in the real world).
  • An Icebuilder in Crystal Glacier refers to this realm as Colossus Valley, which is an early name for the level. It can be an extended name considering the landscape here.
  • The yeti is counted as one of the enemies that releases a Spirit Particle, but the particle is never seen in the original game. In the Reignited Trilogy, the spirit particle is shown when it is defeated.
  • According to Elora's scrapped level dialogue for Colossus, the monks spend most of their time chanting, meditating, and moving large objects with their songs, until the yeti came down from the mountains and took up residence in the Colossus temple, and the monks had to keep it well fed to prevent it from rampaging Colossus, as yetis will eat anything.[1]
    • The dialogue also mentions that the apprentice monks learn from their masters on how to use their powers, which takes a lot of concentration to move objects, not often getting it right the first time.[1]

Original Game

  • Colossus is paired with Idol Springs. An early name for the realm, found in the code for the demo, was Colossus Steppes, and Idol Springs was to be called Colossus Springs.
  • While Brother Ned said that Spyro "...should kill the yeti", the dialogue box replaced "kill" with "torch." It's currently unknown why, though it is possible it was for censorship.
