Lock Chest
First appearance Spyro the Dragon (1998)
Latest appearance Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled (2019)
Location(s) Dragon Realms
Effect Release gems once opened

Lock Chests are containers that first appeared in numerous realms in Spyro the Dragon.

Location and uses

Each chest contains many gems, and can only be opened with a single corresponding key hidden somewhere else in the realm. It appears that Gnasty Gnorc put some of the Dragons' stolen treasure in these chests in an attempt to keep it from being recovered, but Spyro was more clever than Gnasty anticipated and tracked down all the keys with a little perseverance.

Lock chests appear again in Spyro: A Hero's Tail, where Spyro had to acquire a Lock-Pick in order to open them.

Other game appearances

Skylanders

In Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure, locked chests appear through the levels, sometimes behind elemental gates. The player known as the Portal Master in the game is the only one who open the locked chest by shaking the locks off in order to release the chest's contents, which contains gems, treasure, or accessories.

Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled

Lock Chests appeared on the racetrack of the Spyro Circuit portion of Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled, replacing the typical Wumpa crates. On top of them were featured gem-lookalikes to show what's inside.

Trivia

  • In areas with a Supercharge ramp, these containers could be opened by use of supercharge or powerups such as rage fire or superflame. There's also one in Gnorc Cove which can be broken with a metal barrel. If these methods were used, the key would automatically disappear, as there would be no use for it.
